Tours
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
Plan a visit to SOCRRA's Education Center at the Material Recovery Facility site and see how recyclables are sorted and baled! To arrange a group tour (10 minimum), call Karen Bever at (248) 288-5150 or e-mail her at socrra@socrra.org. Tours are available for school groups, senior citizens, garden clubs, environmental clubs, etc.
Tours are available Monday-Friday at 9:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. (Special half hour tours are held around America Recycles Day (November 14) & Earth Day (April 22). Call for details on these tours). Click here for more information
If you are interested in signing up for a tour, we need the following information:
- Requested date and time of tour
- Contact person
- Name of school, address (for confirmation), phone
- Number in group (students + parents, etc.)
- Age or school grade
Please plan to bring items for recycling when you visit.
The handicapped-accessible classroom provides a quiet environment for learning about recycling and waste reduction.
The 45-60 minute tour consists of the following:
- short video
- recycling activities
- tour of MRF (inside), and outside - Recycling Drop-off Center, HHW & Electronics Collection areas
For grades 1-5, one adult should be in attendance for every 6-7 students (25 students maximum in tour groups). The MRF will probably be operating when you visit. Please remind students that they must stay with their group and listen carefully to directions. Students should dress warmly and appropriately for the weather. Students will be asked to walk outside for approximately 15 minutes.
We hope that you will be able to visit SOCRRA's Education Center. Your efforts to incorporate recycling and waste reduction in the classroom will be truly worthwhile.
