Meet Our New General Manager

We are excited to welcome Eric Griffin as the new General Manager of SOCRRA. In addition to this role, he also serves as the General Manager of the Southeastern Oakland County Water Authority (SOCWA). Eric has over twenty years of experience in the water sector but is new to solid waste management. He has an extensive background in implementing technology and analysis tools in the automotive, energy, and water sectors and has been a leader in his roles throughout his career.

Eric grew up in Vermont and received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. He enjoys playing tennis, watching his favorite (Boston) sports teams, and spending time with his wife and daughter, Frankie.

Holiday Curbside Collection

As the holiday season approaches, mark your calendars for curbside collection schedule changes to avoid unnecessarily putting your carts out or missing a collection. When the following holidays land on weekdays, collection on that day and the rest of the week is pushed back by one day, including Friday collections which will take place on Saturday.

Know the 50% Rule for Metal Recycling

Here's a handy tip for recycling metal items: If it's composed of at least 50% metal, take it to SOCRRA's Recycling Drop-off Center and place it in the Scrap Metal bin. For items with less than 50% metal, dispose of it in the trash.

Always use the Waste Wizard tool to check how to properly dispose of an item.

Yard Waste Tips: What Goes in Your Cart

With fall just around the corner, leaves will begin to blanket the ground, so it’s essential to manage your yard waste effectively. Check out our yard waste flyer to see what can and can't go into your yard waste cart. Pile in those grass clippings, leaves, small branches, and garden trimmings, but avoid plastic bags, rocks, food scraps, and pet waste.
