Due to the conversion of our Material Recycling Facility (MRF) from dual stream recycling to single stream recycling, we will be suspending our tours until further notice. Please check back periodically for updates.
Plan a visit to SOCRRA’s Education Center at the Material Recovery Facility Site and see how recyclables are sorted and baled! To arrange a group tour (10 minimum), call SOCRRA at (248) 288-5150 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org. Tours are available for school groups (grades 1st through 12th), senior citizens, garden clubs, environmental clubs, etc. To accommodate children younger than 1st grade, we will provide ½ hour tours during the week of Earth Day and America Recycles Day.
If you are interested in signing up for a tour, please provide the following information:
- Requested date and time of tour.
- Contact person and phone number.
- Name of school/group and address.
- Number in group (students & parents, etc.).
- Age or school grade.
- Will you be coming in a bus?
Our handicapped-accessible classroom provides a quiet environment for learning about recycling and waste reduction. The 45-60 minute tour consists of the following:
- Short movie
- Recycling activities
- Tour of MRF (inside, and outside – Recycling Drop-off Center, HHW & Electronics Collection areas
For grades 1-5, one adult should be in attendance for every 6-7 students (35 students maximum in tour groups). The MRF will be operating when you visit. Please remind students that they must stay with their group and listen carefully to directions. Students should dress warmly and appropriately (no sandals) for the weather. Students will be asked to walk outside for approximately 20 minutes.
We hope that you will be able to visit SOCRRA’s Education Center. Your efforts to incorporate recycling and waste reduction in the classroom will be truly worthwhile.
